Who was this designed for, and why?
The goal of this project was to develop a solution for the mismatch between the language of the text on Uber Eats and one’s own first language. In this case the user’s first language is a Chinese language that uses Chinese Characters. Even with the system language set to Chinese, the text on menus features on Uber Eats remain in English. Therefore, certain words on any given menu may be unknown or unfamiliar to users whose first language is Chinese.
What solution does it offer for its users?
The app as it is now does not allow users to easily copy and paste text into a translator, nor does it offer translation within the app.
This prototype aims to solve this issue by facilitating in app translation that helps users learn words that were previous unfamiliar with minimal steps required.
The solution for this mismatch was to create an in app translator that would allow users to translate words within the app with ease and eliminate the time and effort expended on switching between a separate translator app and the Uber Eats app.
A simple interaction between the text and the user is required to generate a translation. This helps reduce time spent on apps outside of the Uber Eats app, and it allows users to feel more at ease and order food in a shorter amount of time.
